Stormwater Management Committee, September 1, 2026
One of the three substantive items this meeting involves a decades-old environmental settlement with a company called Tronox. That’s not a name that shows up in routine county business.
🔦 The 3 items worth your attention
The Tronox settlement amendment is the most unusual thing on the agenda. The county’s stormwater department is being asked to modify an existing environmental settlement agreement for the third time, this round changing how money can move between cleanup trust accounts and making it easier to fund sites where people may currently be exposed to contamination. No dollar figure is attached to this item. The mechanics matter more than any number here. (Item 9-B)
A $77K contract renewal keeps The Conservation Foundation doing public and professional education on stormwater for another year, running October 2026 through September 2027. It’s the second of three optional renewal years under RFP #24-092-SWM, so the committee has agreed to this arrangement before. Routine in structure, but it’s real money for a specific vendor. (Item 9-C)
Chatburg Park in Roselle is getting a stormwater basin retrofit, funded by the county’s Water Quality Improvement Grant through an intergovernmental agreement with the Roselle Park District. The grant cap is just over $20K. Small project, but it’s the kind of localized fix that affects the neighbors who live near that park. (Item 9-A)
🏗️ Roads & property
Nothing infrastructure or property-related on this agenda.
💰 Where the money’s going
- Roselle Park District, Chatburg Park Stormwater Basin Retrofit, Water Quality Improvement Grant: $20,186 (Item 9-A)
- The Conservation Foundation, professional education services, FY2027 renewal year: $77,000 (Item 9-C)
📌 Also notable
- Staff presents the quarterly spill response report, which summarizes environmental spill incidents the county responded to during the quarter. Worth a look if you’re near any waterways. (Item 8-C)
- Staff presents the DPC Stormwater Management Currents Newsletter. (Item 8-B)
- Monthly claims schedule for August 2026 is on the consent agenda. (Item 7-A)
Public comment is item 4 on the agenda. The meeting is a Stormwater Management Committee session, so county process for signing up to speak applies. Check DuPage County’s website for location, time, and registration details.
