The county is chasing $2.3M in federal money to fix a road signal. That’s the headline this week.

It’s a short agenda, honestly. Five items are just housekeeping. But two things actually matter, plus a budget shuffle that’s worth a second glance.

🔦 The 3 items worth your attention

The county has submitted a grant proposal asking the U.S. DOT Federal Highway Administration for $2,326,500 to install flashing yellow signal improvements on Geneva Road, under the federal Local Highway Safety Improvement Program. The committee is being notified of the proposal, not deciding whether to pursue it, that part’s already in motion. If the federal government says yes, the upgrades happen with no direct hit to county taxpayers. (9-A)

The Stearns Road Multi-Use Trail is moving from idea to engineering. The county wants to hand HR Green, Inc. a contract worth roughly $366K to do Phase I preliminary engineering for a trail running from the DuPage/Kane County Line to Sayer Road. This is the study phase, nothing gets built yet, but you can’t get to construction without it. The contract would run through October 2028. (8-A)

Transportation maintenance burned through its overtime budget. The county is looking to shift $45K from contingency funds into the overtime line to cover the gap, existing money, moved around, nothing new being spent. It’s a small number, but it signals that maintenance crews have been working more hours than the original budget assumed. (6-A)
