Committee on Public Safety, September 3, 2026
Three unsafe structures are up for repair-or-demolish orders this week, two of them back after being tabled in July.
🔦 The 3 items worth your attention
The two that got tabled in July are back. The committee will decide whether to order repairs or demolition at 6031 S MLK Jr. Blvd and 1218 Gordon Avenue, both of which were first considered on July 8 and set aside. That pause is over. Owners of either property are looking at a binding resolution if the committee moves forward tonight. (5-B, 5-C)
A third property, 920 Long Blvd, is newer to the list. Same question: fix it or tear it down. The committee’s decision affects neighbors on all sides who’ve been living next to a structure the city has deemed unsafe. (5-D)
The FY 2027-2028 budget priorities conversation starts here. It’s just a discussion, no decisions tonight, but what gets flagged in this room tends to shape what survives the full budget process two years out. Public safety services are squarely in scope. (5-E)
🏗️ Roads & property
- Status updates on five previously flagged properties: 1004 Cady Court, 904 E Kalamazoo, 509 Baker, 5210 S Washington, and 6255 Marywood. The committee’s checking whether any of them have moved toward compliance since they last came up. (6-F)
