The county’s emergency management office is coming to this meeting without its supporting materials attached, which tells you the staffing conversation on item 9-C is going to be more discussion than decision.

The 3 items worth your attention

The committee will take up a new Kane County Emergency Response Guide and, along with it, a requirement that county employees go through orientation on it (9-B). This isn’t just filing a document somewhere. It sets a countywide standard for how staff are expected to respond when things go wrong, and the orientation piece means departments will actually have to do something with it.

Two grants are headed to the courts side of the agenda. The Child Protection Data Courts Grant (12-A) would bring outside funding into data management for child protection proceedings. The Court Improvement Program Grant (12-B) goes further: it would fund the creation of a brand-new Family Treatment Court in Kane County, a specialized court for families dealing with substance use and related issues.

The State’s Attorney’s Office is putting three money items in front of the committee at once: a review of added costs tied to the SAFE-T Act and Pre-Trial Fairness Act (13-C), an opioid diversion grant from the City of Aurora (13-D), and a separate budget adjustment to fold in funding from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (13-E). That’s a lot of financial housekeeping for one office in one meeting.
