Monday’s agenda has three separate items for the same bridge. The 87th Street Bridge over Springbrook Creek gets a state funding agreement, a construction easement deal, and an engineering contract all in one night.
The 3 items worth your attention
The city is looking to lock in a no-bid electrical equipment contract with A Star Electric Inc. for up to $1.5M over one year (M-2). Single-source procurements skip competitive bidding because staff has determined only one supplier can provide what’s specified, so there’s no competing offer to compare. That’s not unusual for specialized utility equipment, but it’s the kind of item worth showing up for.
Weston Ridge Apartments at 540 Weston Ridge Drive is up for a major PUD change and preliminary plat with deviations (I-13). This would modify the Railway Plaza Commercial Planned Unit Development to allow a new apartment complex on what was commercial land. If you live nearby or care about how that corner develops, this is your night.
Parking lot maintenance across city-owned lots goes to Denler, Inc. for just over $1.2M, base contract plus a 3% contingency (M-1). It’s a bid award, not a small purchase, and the contingency means the final bill could edge a bit higher than the headline number.
Roads & property
- The city would grant the Naperville Park District a temporary construction easement to move forward on the 87th Street Bridge reconstruction over Springbrook Creek (I-17).
- IDOT is putting $2.7M toward that same bridge project under a joint funding agreement (I-18). Civiltech Engineering would handle Phase III design and construction engineering for around $550K (I-19).
- A height variance for a detached garage at 151 N. Wright St. is on the consent agenda; the structure would exceed the standard height limit under city code (I-12).
- The Entourage property at 796 S. Route 59 is up for a minor PUD change to allow a building addition within the Fox River Commons development (I-14).
