Materials Management Planning · 2026-08-25

Monday’s meeting has no contracts, no dollar figures, and no votes on anything consequential. It’s a planning session, start to finish.

That’s not a knock. This committee is mid-process on a countywide waste and recycling plan, and the work they do in rooms like this one shapes what gets built, where, and who pays for it later. So it’s worth knowing what’s on the table.

🔦 The 3 items worth your attention

The committee sits down to rank its own priorities for the materials management plan before anything else gets drafted into policy. Goals set here will filter down into every chapter that follows, including how the county frames recycling targets, what infrastructure it plans to fund, and how it measures success. Worth knowing what they land on. (6-a)

Draft Chapter 1 is up for its first real review. This is the Planning Area Profile, which sounds dry but isn’t: it establishes the baseline data and geographic boundaries the entire plan will rest on. Get this chapter wrong, or underdetermined, and the downstream chapters have a shaky foundation to build from. (6-b)

The facility siting discussion is probably the one with the longest real-world reach. Where future waste and recycling facilities can go isn’t just a zoning question, it’s a land-use and environmental question for whatever communities end up near them. The process they sketch out here will govern how those decisions get made. (6-c)
